Jindires Residents Insist on Staying Near Damaged Homes, Expel Local Council Committees

afrinpost – Exclusive:

Residents of the town of Jindires, whose homes were destroyed and damaged as a result of the devastating earthquake, have been forced to set up tents near the ruins of their homes and live in them, or convert their agricultural machinery and tractors to a suitable place to sleep in.

Sources told “afrinpost” that committees formed by the local council of Jindires, which is affiliated with the Turkish authorities, have begun touring the tents of survivors of the earthquake in the vicinity of the devastated city of Jindires, trying to register the names of the original residents with the aim of relocating them to camps in Idlib and Al-Bab. However, the residents have expelled them, refusing to move away from their devastated homes and insisting on staying in tents set up near their homes until they are rehabilitated.

One of the citizens told “afrinpost“: “We will remain near the ruins of our homes and we will not leave for Idlib camps. We will not be deceived by them. We are aware of the Turkish objectives, which are working to exploit the consequences of the earthquake to end Kurdish presence in the town forever.”

In the same context, members of the “Faylaq al-Sham” militia attacked the Kurdish citizen “Ahmed Maamo” (Khaji) by beating him because he opposed an attempt to set up tents in his olive field, which is located in the vicinity of the ancient Jindires hill.

The “Amshat” militia also seized agricultural land belonging to one of the Kurdish citizens west of Jindires and began leveling the land in preparation for setting up a camp to accommodate IDPs loyal to them.

The head of the local council of Jindires stated that about 2,000 families are still homeless out of 3,900 families who left their homes.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Local Administration and Services of the Syrian Interim Government, the local council in Afrin has begun working on preparing a camp in Jindires and Afrin.

The Civil Defense (White Helmets) documented the collapse of more than 550 buildings, while more than 1,570 buildings were partially damaged, and thousands of buildings and houses have cracked in the overall areas affected by the earthquake in northwest Syria.
