The pro-Turkey Islamic militias in Afrin are carrying out a “savage” campaign to log and sell olive trees, especially with the onset of winter, the increased demand for firewood, and its high prices estimating about 115$ per ton.
In this context, our reporter said that gunmen of the Turkish-backed “Al-Majd Corps” militia in the center of Bulbul district uprooted 65 olive trees, in addition to a number of squint trees in the field belonging to the Kurdish resident Walid Omar, under the pretext that the owner of the field was a fighter in the ranks of people protection units(YPG).
The reporter added that the city of Afrin witnesses daily entry of dozens of trucks loaded with olive wood coming from the countryside of the region to be marketed in the wood market located near the second bridge in the center of the city.
