Dispute over archaeological treasures leaves pro-Turkey gunmen dead in Teranda, Afrin

afrinpost – Exclusive

Two armed members of the “Al-Hayani” group affiliated with the Turkish-backed “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiya” militia were killed, due to a dispute among the group’s members over the distribution of shares of archaeological treasures that were extracted from an area near the archaeological hill of Terenda, south of the occupied city of Afrin, amid complete secrecy over the accident.

According to our reporter, the area has been on alert, as military vehicles belonging to the “Firas Oso” group have been heading for four days to the bushes near the archaeological hill in order to contain the situation.

Our reporter confirmed that illegal excavations are taking place during this period in two locations, one near the landfill in the vicinity of the village of Terenda (next to the former Rodco Company), and the other near the archaeological hill, adding that the Turkish-backed “Jaish Al-Islam” militia is currently conducting a field search for antiquities by Modern equipment in the area located in the villages of Terenda and Qibare.

The Directorate of Antiquities in Afrin stated on its official Facebook page on September 20, 2022, that the archaeological hill of Terenda was subjected to sabotage excavations by the Turkish authorities. The pictures taken from a distance show the general features of the excavations carried out by heavy machinery on the slope of the hill, which lost part of its height in the middle and the western edge of it.
