afrinpost – Special
“afrinpost” obtained special photos showing large scale excavations at large areas of the archaeological site of Nabi Hori in Shara district in the occupied countryside of Afrin.
The pictures also show that excavations were carried out with heavy machinery at the top of the hill that supports the amphitheater of the Nabi Hori theater, while the Turkish-backed militants set up tents to follow up on their excavations and prevent anyone from approaching the place.
The site of Al-Nabi Hori witnessed a lot of bulldozing and excavation work by the Turkish-supported militias in search of artifacts and treasures.
In early June 2021, the Turkish authorities carried out a new excavation campaign in the vicinity of the Nabi Hori Castle, in broad daylight, using heavy machinery and behind earth mounds, to excavate and steal antiquities under the supervision of the Turkish intelligence, whose members frequent the site to see the excavations.
On May 15, 2020, the Directorate of Endowments of the Turkish state of Hatay announced the restoration of the archaeological shrine / shrine of the “Prophet Hori” (the Roman pyramidal tomb) on the site, to show it as an Ottoman monument and landmark, after tampering with the shrine, sabotaging its tomb, excavation of the floor of the building and replacing it with modern tiles and replacing the old mausoleum with a modern one.
As well as the sabotage of the Roman house, (which was exposed, restored and rebuilt by the Syrian-Lebanese mission between 2006-2011), the theft of its contents, excavation of its yard and uprooting the trees by the militias during the invasion of the region in March 2018; It is worth noting that the site of Nabi Hori (Syros) is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List
