The terrorist organization “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham”, under the supervision of the Turkish occupation authorities, has been digging a trench and a dirt berm on the administrative border of the region of Afrin and Idlib governorate, under the pretext of combating smuggling in the region.
According to our sources, the excavation work reached the area adjacent to the village of Dewa – Jindires district, starting from the area separating the village of Deir Ballut – Jindires and the “Atma” camps – Idlib. The trench is 3 meters deep and 4 meters wide, and the trench is expected to extend to the village of Ghazawiya, and maintaining only two crossings, “Deir Ballout and Ghazzawiya”.
According to local activists, “Tahrir al-Sham” claims that the aim of establishing the trench is to prevent drug smuggling and ISIS elements between the areas under the control of the “Muslim Brotherhood” militia known as the “National Army” in Afrin and Idlib, noting that the area adjacent to the Idlib borders is under the control of the Turkish-backed Faylaq al-Sham militia.
The Turkish authorities had previously built isolation walls in the eastern side of the countryside of Afrin in the Sherawa district, under the pretext of strengthening its military points, but the walls extend from the town of Maryamin all the way to beyond the village of Kimar, which raises the fears of the people of Afrin of isolating their region from the Syrian territory in preparation for its final annexation of Turkish lands, according to the testimony of local residents from the region to “afrinpost.”
