Pro-Turkey gunmen impose new royalties and increase burden on inhabitants of Kokane village in Afrin

afrinpost – Exclusive

The Turkish authorities, with all their armed and civil formations, continue to clamp down on the Kurdish indigenous people in the occupied region of Afrin, northern Syria, by imposing royalties and stealing people’s agricultural seasons and crops, with the aim of starving them and pushing them to leave their homes in favor of the IDPs bought in by Turkey.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Turkish-backed “al-Hamza Division” gathered the residents of Kokane village in Mobata / Maabatli sub-district in the home of the village’s mayor, with the aim of informing them to pay a royalty in exchange for the protection provided by the militia to their olive fields.

According to our reporter, the militia leader in the village called “Abu Sultan” imposed on the original residents a financial royalty ranging from 200-500 Turkish lira, on the pretext that the militia was protecting their olive trees.

Despite the villagers’ objections to imposing the royalty due to the difficult living conditions they are facing, the militia did not pay any attention to their objections, and informed them that the deadline for paying the royalty expires on Sunday.

On the other hand, the militia gunmen and IDPs backed by them carry out cutting operations of olive trees to trade in their wood, and the IDP shepherds do not hesitate to graze their livestock among the agricultural fields, causing great damage to the trees.

The reporter explained that the IDPs cut down dozens of olive trees belonging to the citizen “Hajj Rashid,” and that the shepherds release herds of sheep in all the fields and vineyards in the village without supervision or accountability.
