The Chair of the United States Commission for Religious Freedom “Nadine Mainza”, said that Turkey and its militias “killed hundreds of civilians and carried out atrocities against ethnic and religious minorities and caused the displacement of hundreds of thousands of them in northern Syria” and that their commission advised the US administration to put pressure on Turkey to withdraw from Afrin and northern Syria.
Nadine Mainza, in a video statement from USA about the third anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Afrin , said: “On the third anniversary of the Turkish invasion of the peaceful city of Afrin, my heart goes out all of those who lost friends and families, the victims of many atrocities and those who fled their homes and society on March 18th. 2018 ”
On the Turkish aggression against Afrin, Mainza said: Turkey and the Free Syrian Army invaded Afrin in northern Syria, killing hundreds of civilians and committing atrocities against ethnic and religious minorities and women and caused hundreds of thousands to flee.
About the violations committed in Afrin, she said: “Our commission has documented all the violations committed by Turkey in Afrin and other areas, including murder, sexual assault and destruction of worship centers. We are also concerned about the Christians who are arrested and are concerned about the remaining religious and ethnic minorities.”
“Turkey and the Islamic militias govern in excat opposite way that Afrin was governed under the Autonomous Administration. Amnesty International, Human Rights Organization and even the United Nations issued several reports confirming this crimes. Genocide Watch called them war crimes and a crimes against humanity.” She added.
Mainza indicated that their commission advised the US administration to use pressure on Turkey to withdraw from Afrin and northern Syria. She expressed satisfaction with the European Union for issuing a decision to withdraw Turkey from northern Syria, accusing them of carrying out ethnic cleansing.
She concluded by indicating that the international community supports a free Afrin and has held Turkey responsible for these crimes.
