afrinpost – Special

The Turkish occupation authorities, in an unprecedented step in their dealings with the Arab tribes, arrested the Sheikh of the Arab Bubanna clan, in addition to a number of Kurdish citizens in the occupied Afrin region, among the first violations and actions at the end of 2020.

The afrinpost correspondent reported that the “Military Police” militia of the Turkish occupation summoned the citizen “Faris al-Khalil,” the sheikh of the Arab “Bubanna” clan, and arrested him on charges of dealing with the former Autonomous Administration upon his arrival to the militia’s headquarters in the city of Afrin, and no information was received about his fate until today.

Sheikh Faris al-Khalil is a well-known figure and one of the notables of Afrin city, and all the information about him is known since the beginning of the announcement of the occupation of Afrin region, and he was arrested after about three years despite showing flexibility in dealing with the occupation militias.

On 26/6/2018, members of the Al-Bubanna clan confronted and clashed with “Ahrar al-Sham” militia, when the militia gunmen tried to steal a bulldozer belonging to the tribe’s members.

On 1/3/2020, a gunman from the “Nidal Al-Bayanouni” group affiliated with “al-Shamiya Front” militia attacked a member of the “Al-Boubna clan”, the owner of a petrol station, because of his response to an attempt to forcibly take a quantity of gasoline without paying for it, which led to a fist fight. The Turkish occupation soldiers intervened, and drove the two sides to the Serail.

On 23/2/2020, gunmen from “al-Hamzat” militia stormed two houses belonging to the members of Al-Bubanna clan near the bank of Afrin River in an attempt to seize them and house settlers coming from Idlib countryside in, which led to a fight.

It is noteworthy that the occupation authorities tried to avoid provoking the Arab tribes in the city and worked to win them over to their side.
