The afrinpost correspondent reported that armed men of “al-Hamzat” militia affiliated with the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood organization, began excavating an archaeological cave in the village of Marate – Afrin center, in search of archaeological treasures, according to the afrinpost correspondent in Afrin center.
The correspondent added that the cave is located in the center of the village next to the house of citizen Ahmed Battal, referring to the militia, like other Muslim Brotherhood militias, that work to excavate and level the lands in search of antiquities, in the sectors under its control.
On December 16, 2019, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that members of “al-Hamzat” militia affiliated with Turkey continue to search for antiquities in the village of Jwaiq. Since the beginning of November 2019, the militia has dug and excavated several sites in the region, including “Sheikh Jamal’s shrine, located between the villages of Jwaiq and Kokane. According to eyewitnesses, they transferred several bags from the excavation sites.
The militia bulldozed the shrine of “martyr Sheikh Jamal al-Din” – the Islamic and the cemetery of the villages of (Kokane, Ain Hajar, Omu), located on the dirt road (3 km) between the villages of “Kukane and Jwaiq”, and the excavation operations occurred in September 2019.
