Afrinpost – Special
Thousands of arrests and kidnappings have occurred in Afrin region since it was occupied by Turkish forces and militias of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the charge against everyone is the same.
In the context, one of the detainees who was released from Marate Central Prison recently said that once “you are Kurdish, this is enough to arrest you,” a phrase that reflects the extent of racism and the extent of psychological and physical torture that takes place in the basements of the Turkish occupation prisons.
The Kurdish citizen (M.A.), a resident of Afrin, added: “All the Kurdish files are written in which they were arrested on charges that they were either from the PKK or the Yekiti Party, but the truth is not so.” He also notes in each file the amount of the ransom money for their release, whatever the charge, and it starts from 4000 Turkish liras and above, which is imposed on the released on the pretext that they provide water and food to the detainees.
The source mentioned that a Turkish officer named Muhammad (perhaps a pseudonym) told him: “We know that you are neither with these people nor with those, but it is enough to be a Kurd,” adding that they were subjected to psychological torture and insults daily, and this is in addition to the almost daily physical torture.
