In Mamila and Marwaniye … theft of olives and royalties on the Kurds to allow them to harvest

The correspondent of “Afrinpost” at the center of “Mobata / Maabatli” district reported that the militia of “Sultan Muhammad Fateh” looted today, Tuesday, the olive season of three families from the village of “Mamila / Mamal Ushagi” in the sub-district in the countryside of the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria.

The “Afrinpost” correspondent documented the names of the citizens who their olives have been looted. They were Ibrahim Zaini, Muhammad Zaini and another from the Jawish family in the village.

In a related context, the reporter mentioned that the militia “Saad bin Abi Waqqas” in the village of “Marwaniye Tahtani” imposed a royalty of $ 100 on the owners of olive fields in the village, in order to harvest for them their crops.

The reporter also pointed out that the militia of the “Saad bin Abi Waqqas Brigade” uprooted about 2,800 olive trees in the village of “Marwaniye Tahtani”, which belong to each of the citizen “Mikael Bakir Mustafa” 200 trees, Muhammad Bakir Mustafa 180 trees, Subhi Bakir Mustafa 140 trees Israfil Bakir Mustafa has 300 trees, Haji Muhammad Mustafa has 1,000 trees, and the citizen Jabrail Bakir Mustafa has 1,000 trees.

It has become known that all seasons in Afrin are subject to theft, starting with olives, grapes, leaves, sumac and all fruit trees. Trees are also cut down and firewood is sold.

In practice, the percentage of what the Kurdish peasant owner of the land gets from the olive season does not exceed 40%, and it does not cover the expenses of the season, while the percentage of loss is distributed as follows: (the theft of olive fruits + the royalties of local councils, militias and armed checkpoints + olive and oil confiscation + Seizure of olive fields + waste), and he had estimated the total value of theft from the olive season in the 2018 season at about $ 108 million.
