The “Afrinpost” correspondent at the center of the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria reported that the “Kabso” (armed group that is affiliated with the “Al-Shamiya Front” militia has announced the formation of a new militia called “Al-Salam Brigade”.

This came through changing the name of the headquarters of the “23rd Division” militia (stationed at the formerly headquarters of Ronahi newspaper), which was seized after armed clashes, led by “Jamal Kabso,” known to be of the “Al-Shamiya Front” militia.

On 9/8/2020, the “Al-Shamiya Front” militia, with the support of Turkish intelligence, took control of the headquartes of the Ronahi newspaper, which was used by the “23rd Division” militia as its headquarters.

At the time, the militia leader, called “Samir al-Kul,” was arrested, and he was handed over to the Turkish forces, and the 23rd Division was disbanded, as a punitive measure, after gunmen from the “23rd Division” militia shot Turkish vehicles in the town of Sajoo.

While most of the armed men of the “23rd Division” militia are from the city of Tal Rifaat, the majority of the “Al-Shamiya Front” militants are from the city of Azaz, and thus the clash has a regional character and family sensitivity as well, added to the militia’s competition for control, and the militias’ keenness to show their loyalty to the Turkish occupation at the expense of some of them.

The establishment of the militia at this time, and its headquarters in Afrin, contradicts the decisions taken to evacuate the headquarters inside the city and go out to the countryside, which proves the falsehood of these promises, and proves that they were nothing but a media fabrication for purposes related to beautify the occupation image.
