Destroying and excavating a historical cave in Afrin under the pretext of opening a quarry

Afrinpost – Special

Under the pretext that they opened a quarry to extract stone, the armed men of “Failaq Al-Sham” militia destroyed and excavated a historic cave on the slope of Mount Leloun near the village of “Iska / Iskan”, so that the Turkish occupation continued to bury and destroy the monuments of Afrin.

Afrinpost correspondent in the south of the region obtained exclusive photos showing the destruction that “Failaq Al-Sham” militia inflicted on the Delak cave located at the foot of Mount Leloun near the village of Iska of Sherawa district in Afrin countryside, where “Faliaq Al-Sham militia” occupies all villages between Afrin and Idlib.

The reporter said that the gunmen are promoting that they opened a quarry to extract stones, but they are working on excavation in search of archaeological finds or treasures, because local sources from the village of Iska indicate that the cave is very old, dating back to the historical period in which the Church of Saint Simeon Stylites was built.

The Turkish occupation still allows and plans these practices despite the issuance of the United Nations Independent Investigation Commission, a report in which it devoted many pages to it talking about the violations of the Turkish occupation in Afrin and Serekaniye / Ras al-Ain.
