The Syrian regime’s foreign minister, Walid al-Muallem, said that Ankara must abide by the agreements, withdraw its forces or bear the consequences of its occupation of Syrian lands.
In a speech before the United Nations General Assembly, Al-Muallem stressed that Turkey had not implemented its obligations under the “Astana” and “Sochi” agreements, accusing Ankara of supporting the “Al-Nusra Front” organization, which controls most of Idlib in the north of the country.
Al-Muallem added that Idlib has become the largest gathering of foreign terrorists in the world, pointing to Syria’s right and duty to protect its people and to liberate the region from terrorism.
At the same time, he stressed that Syria dealt positively with the initiatives to solve the situation in Idlib and “gave it more time for implementation, hoping that this would contribute to completing the process of eliminating terrorism there,” he said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the regime stressed that Ankara is supported by Western countries, “it desperately protects the terrorist organizations in Idlib, as they did before every advance of the Syrian army to confront terrorism,” noting that Turkey continues its illegal military presence in northern Syria.
