Afrinpost – Special
The Afrinpost correspondent at the center of the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria reported that the “Military Police” militia of the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood organization raped a Kurdish detained girl in the women’s prison in the city of Jarablus years ago.
The reporter stated that the names of the perpetrators of the crime were reached, as he stated that the crime occurred on the 31st of last August, and each of the gunmen (Mahmoud Ramadan, Abu Firas, Khaled Jumaa and Abu Yasser) took turns raping the girl, after the armed woman called “Umm Khaled”, who is a militant working in the prison, helped the militants to enter the prison.
The reporter pointed out that the so-called “Umm Khaled” opened the prison for the gunmen who asked her to facilitate the way for them, and that the crime of rape took place, ”while the“ Afrinpost ”was not able to know the name of the arrested girl or from which city she are.
The incident is not the only one, but rather comes in the context of a number of violations that began with the Turkish occupation and the militias of the Muslim Brotherhood in northern Syria, and was the content of dozens of reports submitted to international human rights organizations, as well as press and media reports.
The investigative investigation prepared by The Investigate Journal on the violations of pro-Turkish Syrian militias, published in early June 2020, contained similar information.
The British journalist Lindsey Snell interviewed a former militant called Mahmoud Khalaf, who confirmed that members of these militias raped women in the Turkish-occupied city of Afrin, and that they went to fight under the name of fighting the PKK and the terrorist organization “ISIS”, and adds: “We realized that was not true.”
In a report by the Human Rights Organization Afrin, published on 9/2/2020, the organization documented the violations committed by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries by 30% against women, most of them minors, like kidnapping, rape and murder.
According to the organization’s report, more than 50 cases of killing women were documented by various means and motives, while 60 cases of rape were recorded, most of them were assaulted and subjected to sexual violence after the kidnapping. The organization relied on testimonies of families who fled due to militia violations.
As for the kidnapped women, the organization said that the number of cases of kidnapping of women exceeded a thousand by the Turkish occupation militias, and while some of them were released after the ransom was paid, the fate of those who remained is still unknown.
On 20/5/2020, the Human Rights Organization in the Al-Jazira region reported that it had documented some violations against women in the occupied areas by Turkey since its occupation of Afrin region, so it documented 40 cases of killing, 128 wounding, and 60 rape in Afrin canton, in addition to a thousand cases of kidnapping and enforced disappearance.”
After the Turkish aggression and occupation of northern Syria, some families returned due to false security claims, and kidnappings took place, and about 30 women were subjected to sexual assault, among them 5 are jihadists, two Kurdish women, and 23 Arab women.
Among the rape stories, what happened with the two sisters Maryam (17 years) and Radhia (27 years), who were kidnapped by armed men from the “Majd Brigade” militia with a third girl, and they stayed for a week during which they were subjected to brutal gang rape.
Activists supporting the Turkish occupation spoke about it and acknowledged that more than 30 cases of “rape” took place in the countryside of Ras al-Ain by the so-called “National Army” militias, and the militias (Hamzat, Suqour Al-Shamal, Sultan Murad and Ahrar Al-Sharqiya) were accused of committing violations And large-scale looting has prevented tens of thousands from returning to their areas, fearing chaos and the deterioration of the security situation.
In the city of Tal Abyad / Gire Spi, the people, especially the clans, attacked and burned the militia headquarters because of the attack on a woman, but the militias did not stop the violations and continued to kidnap women in the villages of the area.
Violations against women are committed by the Muslim Brotherhood militia according to the principle of considering her body as a “war booty”. Thus, crimes of rape, harassment, sexual violence in prisons and detention centers, torture in irregular places of detention and the least practices of forced marriage are legalized.
