A British website specializing in investigative journalism revealed that most of the “mercenaries / hired killers” of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Libya have been without salaries for 5 months.
The London-based Investigative Journal has questioned the viability of the ceasefire that was reached between the unconstitutional government of reconciliation led by Fayez al-Sarraj, the Muslim Brotherhood, and the advisor, Aqila Saleh, the head of the Libyan Parliament, as it raised a state of discontent among the mercenaries, who said that Ankara had not fulfilled its promise to them, and they confessed to committing crimes of looting the homes of Libyans.
Thousands of “mercenaries / hired killers” of the Muslim Brotherhood organization in Syria, who call themselves the “Syrian National Army / Free Army”, joined the extremist Muslim Brotherhood militia affiliated with the unconstitutional Government of National Accord in Tripoli.
“We have freedom of movement in Misurata,” said “Taha Hammoud,” a militia member of “Failaq Al-Majd” militia. “We found many abandoned houses inside of them were gold.”
During the interview, Hammoud did not hesitate to admit that he and those with him looted the homes of Libyans in Misrata, saying: “We have all participated in looting since the Turkish attack on the Syrian city of Afrin and its occupation. Here they did not pay us what they promised, so it is a good way to earn more money.”
The “mercenaries / hired killers” stated that they had been promised a monthly salary of about two thousand dollars in exchange for fighting in Libya, but a large number of them said that they were paid much less, while some explained that they remained in Libya for more than 5 months and received only a month’s salary.
The press reports indicated that the meeting that took place a few days ago in Libya between the Qatari Defense Minister Khaled Al-Attiyah and the Turkish Minister Hulusi Akar and Al-Sarraj, during which it was agreed to increase the salaries of the Syrian mercenaries by 30%, but Omar Yaghi, who is one of the militants of the Hamza Division militia stationed in Ain Zara, which is close to Tripoli, sees this as “mere words.”
He added, “Our leaders always tell us that we will get salaries soon, but this does not happen. They may have said that they will pay more because they thought they would need us to attack Sirte, but why do they need us now?”
Omar says that he receives more information from his friends in Syria than from anyone in Libya: “They do not tell us anything here, we hear news from Syria and we hear rumors too, we don’t know anything for sure until it happens.”
Despite the statement of stopping the fighting, Turkey continues to train mercenaries with the aim of sending them to Libya, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, and the spokesman for the Libyan National Army, Major General Ahmed Al-Mesmari, revealed in a press conference, on Sunday / 23 August, that it had been Turkish military ships have been spotted advancing towards Sirte during the past hours, which reflects Ankara’s lack of seriousness in dealing with the ceasefire agreement.
