The administration of “Al-Manar” Hospital in Afrin prohibits the use of the Kurdish language

Afrinpost – Special

Afrinpost learned from its sources that “Al-Manar” hospital administration recently issued a decision prohibiting the speaking of Kurdish language in the hospital’s corridors. It also discriminates against Kurdish employees that appear from the large differences in the monthly salaries granted between Kurdish employees and their settler counterparts.

The sources pointed out that the hospital run by the so-called “Nizar Al-Madani”, a settler doctor (who is from Al-Ghouta) prevents Kurdish workers from speaking the Kurdish language in the hospital, in addition to that, he discriminates against Kurdish workers, especially from the salaries side, where settlers receive twice the salaries given The Kurds work in the hospital almost, noting that the salary of the settler nurse is (600 Turkish Liras) while the salary of the Kurdish nurse (360 Turkish Liras) regardless of the competence and experience of the worker.

The Turkish occupation in the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin follows the policy of cultural erosion and the denial of Kurdish identity for the region and has entrusted the task to the militias affiliated with the Brotherhood and settlers and formal local councils as well as the institutions that created it, which seek to restrict the circulation of the Kurdish language and exclude the Kurds from jobs.

The Turkish occupation seized Al-A’sdiqa’ School, which belongs to Dr. Riyad Manla, who has been in the Al-Zira’a Prison in Al-Bab more than two years ago, and has transferred part of it to Al-Manar Hospital.

The restrictions on the use of the Kurdish language and its learning come within the framework of the Turkish policy and Arabization imposed on the occupied Afrin region, so what was called the Directorate of Education on 20/5/2020 issued the examination program for the high-School certificate and it is noted that the inclusion of three languages are Turkish, Arabic and English, while the Kurdish language has been canceled, although it is the mother tongue of the indigenous people of the region, and the historical name of Afrin has been canceled and replaced with the name “Olive Branch”.

There are many examples of racist treatment against the indigenous Kurdish people of Afrin, as the employment of settlers to work in 34 relief and aid organizations. Jasmine (a pseudonym for security necessity), is an employee of one of the organizations, and she states that her Kurdish colleague stopped working at the request of settler colleagues, Jasmine recalls manifestations of racism practiced by the organization, that she is withholding the names of Kurdish citizens from the relief aid schedule, on the pretext that they have property and olive fields, although the militia elements have seized most of the property and olive fields.
