Human rights organization documents 40 kidnappings during June in Afrin .. including two women

“Syrians for Truth and Justice” organization said that the militias of the “Military Police”, “Al-Shamiya Front” and “Sultan Murad Squad” carried out most of the “arrests”, in reference to the kidnapping of the people of the occupied Kurdish Afrin region in northern Syria, and stated that 20 kidnapped person had been released, one of them in exchange for “ransom” , and two people were documented to have been severely tortured.

“Syrians for Truth and Justice” documented the kidnapping of at least 40 people, including two women, in Afrin, by the Syrian National Army militias affiliated with the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood, during the month of June 2020, noting that only 20 kidnapped people were documented to be released, while two women and 18 others are still unaccounted for.

According to the testimonies of the families and witnesses of the field researchers, the militia “Military Police”, “Al-Shamiya Front”, “Civil Police” and “Sultan Murad Squad” were responsible for the most of these arrests, which were carried out in arbitrarily and did not observe the due procedures in most of them.

“Syrians for Truth and Justice” indicated that it was able to document some of the kidnappings that took place in the region, but not all of them, as it was unable to document the events that took place in the areas of “Shieh / Sheikh Al-Hadid” and “Shara/ Sharan” and “Raju” for security reasons .
