After olives, olive oil, and grape leaves … the gunmen steal sumac crops in Afrin

Afrinpost – Special

Local sources reported that the militants of “Samarkand Brigade” of the Turkish occupation, carried out a massive theft campaign for the sumac season, which included the fields of forcibly displaced people in several villages belonging to the “Bulbula / Bulbul” district and the villages are: (Ramadano, Haj Qasim, Rota / Rotanli , Gundi Mezin), according to Human Rights Organization Afrin – Syria

The irony is that the gunmen do not steal a secretly, and they are never embarrassed, but rather threaten the owners of the original fields if they took the initiative to harvest their crops. The wife of the Kurdish citizen, Bakr Sheikho Ahmad, who was a resident of the village of Rota / Rotanli, is elderly and resided alone in her house was threatened to be beaten with knives by 4 settlers, who insulted her, while she was going to her field in the vicinity of her village to harvest a sumac, which forced her to flee the field.

It is noteworthy that sumac spread throughout the entire villages of Afrin region, and it was from wild plantations and was often cultivated on the outskirts of olive fields, especially in the areas (Balbulah, Shara, Sherawa).

In recent years, the people of Afrin have been particularly interested in it after it has become an important source of income, because the season comes at a special time with the entry of July to August, and thus the trend was to use small areas of land to grow sumac, as it does not require effort or significant expenses .

Families of the militants and settler families go to steal the sumac crop early and before it ripens.
