Afrinpost – Special
The methods and methods by which settlers seek to seize the property of the Kurdish displaced from the occupied Afrin region differ, while the areas surrounding Afrin still maintain the lead in the degree of harm inflicted by them on the indigenous Kurdish population of Afrin.
Since the start of the demonstrations in Syria, and its transformation into an armed struggle for power between the Syrian regime and the Muslim Brotherhood, the areas adjacent to Afrin in the east, specifically Azaz, and south in Atma and Darat Azza have had the largest share in kidnapping Kurdish citizens, and the siege of Afrin, in order to force them to accept the organization and its militants. They used to call themselves the “Free Army”, before Ankara converted it to another name, “Syrian National Army.”
With the start of the Turkish invasion of Afrin in January 2018, these areas and their armed men had the most prominent role in the occupation of Afrin, as they were the ones most familiar with the geography of the region and some of its terrain.
When the Turkish military occupation was applied on the eighteenth of March 2018, the militants of Azaz, Marea, Tal Rifaat, Meng, Darat Azza, Atma and Sarmada had the biggest role in stealing the property of the people of Afrin, their mechanisms, cars, and factories, part of which was sold in the northern countryside of Aleppo, and the other section in Idlib.
Now, after two years and more of the occupation’s application, settlers belonging to these areas adhere to the Turkish occupation in Afrin, in order to seize the homes and properties of the Kurds, and register them on their names with the Turkish occupation, while Afrin has not been annexed to Ankara, which has become the culmination of the dreams of the Muslim Brotherhood.
As the organization seeks to annex the border areas from Syria from Idlib to Jarablus, through “Afrin”, and to the sector that extends between the cities of “Sere Kaniye / Ras al-Ain” and “Gire Spi / Tel Abyad”, to Ankara, through a fake referendum that may take place like the referendum of the occupation of Alexandretta, in a dangerous secessionist endeavor.
In the context, Afrinpost correspondents confirm that some families from Azaz and other areas of the northern countryside of Aleppo and Idlib countryside have left their homes, by keeping a small number of individuals there, and went to live in the homes of Kurdish displaced people in Afrin countryside in particular.
The correspondents indicated that the main motive behind this is the desire of these settlers to obtain agricultural lands and homes in the countryside of Afrin, in case the military occupation remains applied to the Kurdish region for a long time.
They assume that they may be able to register these properties in their names, or that the people of Afrin may give up their right to return to their land and expel the occupation and its agents from it, whether they are armed or settlers.
