The settlers are destroying a Yazidi shrine in Basofan to mark the start of Ramadan

AfrinPost – Special

Violations by settlers with relatives of militants affiliated with the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood, who were brought from the countryside of Damascus, Homs, Hama, Deir Ezzor, Idlib, Aleppo, and others, continue after they are satisfied with themselves to be tools in the hands of the Turkish occupation, within the framework of their sinful role of demographic change Afrin, and the elimination of its Kurdish identity.

In the context, the Basofan Village page on Facebook said that, during the first days of Ramadan, settlers in the village destroyed the “Mazar Al-Sheikh Ali” dome, which is the Yazidi shrine in the Kurdish village of Basofan in the Shirawa district of Afrin countryside.

The page indicated that this crime added to “a series of violations that target human beings, trees, stone, and everything related to Kurdish.”

The page noted also, that the settlers destroyed the dome amid repeating the takbeers in public, describing the shrine as belonging to the “infidels and atheists.”

The page said: “We, as the people of Basofan village, condemn these terrorist actions, as do all previous violations against the entire region of Afrin and its people,” noting that the shrine is located in the middle of the middle school in the village from the east.

Since the occupation of the Afrin region in the middle of March 2018, settlers and armed Islamic militias have directed Turkey to destroy and dig up graves and religious shrines, as the region contains dozens of historical cemeteries and religious shrines that belong to different religions and sects, due to their extremist religious orientation, as well as their belief that there are archaeological burials in those graves.
