How does the Turkish occupation steal the water of Afrin?

Afrinpost – Special

Sources told the “Afrinpost” that the Turkish wali of Hatay, recently sent a technical delegation to the occupied Kurdish region of Afrin in northern Syria, to open the gates of the Medanki Dam to fill a dam built on the course of the Afrin River near the Turkish city of Rihaniyya with the aim of irrigation of agricultural lands in the depth of the Plain.

The sources pointed out that the official responsible for the gates of the Medanki Dam refused to fulfill the orders of the Turkish governor because the dam stock had not reached the required level, and the province’s need for water.

However, the Turkish delegation threatened the Kurdish employee with arrest in case of not to yield to the orders of the governor, and in the face of the insistence of the responsible official to refuse to implement the demands of the governor, the Turkish employees opened the gates themselves by an amount of 40 cm, despite the region’s need for that water.

The sources denied that the Turkish side had built water channels in the territory of the region, but would rely only on the water of Maidanki Lake to draw water into the Turkish lands through the valley of the Afrin River itself, even though the plains of Jenderes depend on the water of the dam for irrigation, and the residents of the city depend on water Dam to drink.

It is worth noting that 60% of the water of the Afrin River originates from within the territory of the region, while the Turkish side has cut off the rest of the water that originates from the Turkish lands, as it built a dam in a reformatory area on the water of the Afrin River on the Turkish side.
