Afrin Post – Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar
Five-year-old Ramyar smiles confidently about what he wants to be in the future. «I want to become an engineer, and I build a house for Papa and Mama».
The child’s hopes are not limited to the construction of the house, but also predetermines the desired geographical spot for that house. It is the city of Afrin, northern Syria, one of the cities currently under Turkish occupation.
The child says he loves Aleppo, where he and his family live today, but says he loves Afrin more. Ramyar has three years older brother, Sherko, who also has “plans for the future.”
Ramyar’s name, in Kurdish, means “thought lover,” or thinker, while Shirko is “lion of the mountains.” “Uncle, I just want to become a journalist,” says Sherko.
The two children affirm their love for the country and, with great discipline, each smiles separately, ready to take pictures, in the presence of their father. Ramyar memorizes the date of his displacement and his family from Afrin, stares to the camera steadily, and then says «we want to free Afrin, to your eyes, Palestine».
