Forcibly displaced women from Afrin seek to break the siege imposed on them in Shahba

The Committee of Agriculture and Economy, with the participation of the displaced people of Afrin in Al-Shahba, began harvesting the potato crop, where the crop will be distributed to the people of Afrin who suffer from a siege imposed by the Turkish occupation, which looted with the Muslim Brotherhood militants the property of the forcibly displaced people of Afrin after the Turkish invasion January 2018 In addition, the Syrian regime prevented the people of Afrin from going to Aleppo.

According to the Hawar news agency reported Tuesday, the Self-Administration in the province of Afrin seeks to break the siege imposed on them by the Syrian regime on the one hand, and the Turkish occupation army and its gunmen on the other, by their own potential, and rely on local production.

In this context, the Committee of Agriculture and Economy of the Self-Administration planted 6 hectares in the region with potatoes to support the local economy.

The Committee of Agriculture and Economy began harvesting the potato crop, according to administrators will reach production of about 150 tons, while 250 people from the people of Afrin to harvest the crop, they earn 2500 SP per worker per day, where they start work from 08:00 am, until 15:00 pm.

According to the committee’s administrators, the crop will be distributed to the people of Afrin through communes and councils, according to the number of members of each family, in each of the villages and districts of Shahba and Sherawa district, in addition to the camps (Berxwedan, Serdem, Afrin, Al-Awda and Al-Shahba).

In an interview with Hawar Agency, the agricultural engineer and economist, Bassem Othman, said that the agriculture committee had planted potatoes in order to harvest the crop and distribute it to the people.“Today we harvest the crop, which is good for other years, and we provide a job opportunity for a number of people, we will distribute the crop to the people later.”

In turn, Faidan Othman said that the Committee of Agriculture and Economy provided them with a job opportunity, to meet their daily needs, and thanked the Committee of Agriculture and Economy for its assistance to the people, despite the small possibilities, to follow up that they worked to harvest the crop of vegetables before now, and that the Committee distributed the crop to the people.

Worker Amal Abdo said, “We are facing difficult conditions in Al-Shahba district due to the suffocating siege imposed by the Syrian regime, in addition to violations by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries from repeated shelling on the densely populated villages in Al-Shahba district and Sherawa district.”

She explained that the international organizations turn a blind eye to the people of Afrin who live in the camps, and the failure to meet the daily needs of the displaced people, and concluded by saying, “We are happy with this work, and grateful for the assistance provided by the Committee of Agriculture and Economy.”
