Kurdish Man Kidnapped in Afrin

Our correspondent reported that the Turkish-allied Sultan Murad Militia kidnapped Mohiyeddin Mohammed, born in 1983, from the village of Kubak in Mabatli district yesterday. The abduction took place in Al-Zaydiyah neighborhood of Afrin city, where the militia also confiscated his Hyundai Porter pickup truck. The reason for the kidnapping was Mohammed’s demand for the return of his seized house near the cemetery, which has been occupied since 2018.

Mohiyeddin Mohammed, a married father of four, had recently returned to Afrin from Aleppo, where he had been displaced.

In a separate incident, Turkish authorities released Mohammed Mohammed Barakat, 46, from the village of Kokan in Mabatli district, last Thursday, May 23. Barakat had been arrested on May 6 for allegedly participating in security shifts during the previous Autonomous Administration. His release came after a fine of $400 was imposed on him.
