Turkish-backed militias affiliated with the “Syrian National Army” persist in attacking fruitful trees, particularly olive trees, through systematic felling operations to profit from timber trade. These actions are directly orchestrated by Turkey, conveyed through its intelligence offices and delegates operating within various branches of security, military, and civil administration in the occupied region of Afrin, northwest Syria.
Our reporter documented the unjust felling of dozens of olive trees by militias without restraint. Notably, 150 olive trees were illegally cut in the village of Qastal Kishk in Sharan district, belonging to citizens Ahmad Sheikh Naasan, Anwar Sheikh Naasan, and Salah Mohammed on December 20.
Additionally, 40 olive trees were uprooted in the village of Qurt Qulaq, owned by citizen Hikmat Manna. Noting that the village is under the control of the “Sultan Murad” militia.
On December 16, about 120 olive trees were unjustly cut near the village of Kani Gewrik in Jindires district, owned by citizens Rashid Mohammed and Abdul Rahman Abdo. Furthermore, 25 trees were uprooted, owned by citizen Majid Khalil, in the same village, under the control of the “Jaish al-Sharqiya” militia.
In the village of Qibar, 15 olive trees were unlawfully cut by militia gunmen for the purpose of selling the timber. The trees belonged to citizen Haydar Hisso from the village of Kimar.
