Militants Target 200 Trees, Over Half Belonging to Kurdish Judge in Afrin

Two days ago, media activist “Ahmad Al-Barhou” shared a video on his Facebook page, revealing an olive field owned by a Kurdish judge that fell victim to ruthless tree cutting. The trees, estimated to be around a century old, suffered unjust destruction. The video also featured another olive field subjected to partial cutting.

Al-Barhou identified the olive trees as belonging to Judge “Abdul Qadir Abdul Rahman” from the village of Midanki in the Shara district. He is a judge at the Sharan and Bulbul courts. The trees experienced cutting in two stages, as the judge attempted to repair the damage caused by the “criminals” after the first cutting. However, three days ago, they struck again, cutting significant portions of over a hundred trees. Additionally, other trees owned by the residents of Midanki were affected.

Expressing concern, Al-Barhou questioned, “If even a judge, who holds a special position and authority even in the most corrupt countries, faces such incidents, what about an ordinary citizen who has no power or influence.”

It is worth noting that Judge “Abdul Qadir Abdul Rahman” is the father of Judge “Renas Abdul Rahman,” presiding over the courts in Sharan and Afrin. Both judges hail from the town of Midanki. Their presence, accompanied by the media activist, suggests an inability to take legal action against those who attacked their olive field. Perhaps this was a way to bring the complaint to the attention of security authorities and the occupying forces.

Lawyer “Hussein Nouri Na’aso” commented on the video, stating, “If the judge’s rights are violated, his properties confiscated, and his dignity undermined, how can he achieve justice and support the oppressed, oh mercenaries?”

Na’aso added, “Any member of the mercenary factions can humiliate any judge while standing on the courthouse steps. They can even assault him in the streets of Afrin without accountability, under the watchful eyes of the occupation. This is because the mission of those courts is not to hold criminals, murderers, and thieves accountable but to protect and legitimize their crimes. They do so by legalizing theft under the guise of fines and extorting innocent citizens, claiming to deal with the previous administration, all to collect more money for the benefit of the occupation and the mercenaries.”

He concluded, “If Judge Abdul Qadir and other judges are unable to protect themselves and reclaim their rights, how can they achieve justice and support the oppressed people in reclaiming their rights?”
