On September 26, Turkish authorities arrested Mr. Khalil Hussein Abdo, a resident of Ba’dina village in the Rajo subdistrict, on charges of his previous membership in the Ashrafieh neighborhood council (Komîn) during the former Autonomous Administration era in Afrin.
Mr. Khalil, 49 years old, had returned to the occupied city of Afrin from Aleppo about a week ago. Today, he visited the local council building to retrieve his personal identity documents associated with the council. However, he was immediately apprehended during the identity retrieval process.
It’s worth noting that Turkish intelligence had instructed the civil registry in Afrin to transfer applications for identity documents related to the local council to them for security scrutiny nearly a year ago. There is a particular focus on the names of newly returned residents from Afrin who are subjected to arrests upon returning to their homes and villages. This is done with the purpose of interrogating them and preventing them from reclaiming their confiscated properties.
