Our sources in Afrin have revealed that Turkish intelligence detained Nazir Khalil Kalho, a 48-year-old Kurdish resident from Sanara village in Sheikh al-Hadid sub-district, nearly two weeks ago. He was arrested due to alleged dealings with the former Autonomous Administration in occupied Afrin.
After his arrest by Turkish intelligence in Afrin city, he suffered physical abuse. He was then transferred to Adana, Turkey, for interrogation. The specific charges remain unclear at this time, the sources added.
In a separate incident, the “Human Rights Afrin-Syria” organization reported on August 21 that individuals were apprehended by the military police checkpoint in A’zaz nearly twenty days ago. Those detained included Dirwesh Abdul Manan Habib (55), his wife Ramzia Hussein Habib (50), their minor son Diyar Dirwesh (14), and their neighbor’s son Rashid Nazmi Kulain Habib (15) from Qurneh village in Bulbul sub-district. They were allegedly linked to the former Autonomous Administration.
Ramzia Hussein was released after four days, while Rashid Nazmi was released two weeks later after his family paid a ransom. Dirwesh and Diyar remain in custody, with a demanded ransom of 7,000 US dollars by the military police militia.
Additionally, Turkish intelligence, alongside the civil police militia, detained Kamiran Asmat Khalil (42) from the “Allo Barbar” family in Bulbul town about a month ago. He endured abuse in civil police custody and was released after a week with a ransom of 500 US dollars.
Over the past two weeks, Hassan Saydo (60) and his wife from the “Aurish” family returned to Afrin city after paying nearly 6,000 US dollars to avoid harm. Their attempt to reclaim their home is obstructed by the “Suqour al-Shamal” militia, demanding 3,000 US dollars. They are currently residing with relatives in Kafr Safra, Jindires sub-district.
Similar to Hassan’s case, Walid Ibrahim Khalil Mohammed (50), forcibly displaced, recently returned home in Ali Karo village within Bulbul sub-district. He paid 1,000 US dollars to the “Hamzat” militia to secure his home and possessions. This information is drawn from a comprehensive report by the “Human Rights Afrin-Syria” organization.
