Violent clashes erupted yesterday evening, August 16th, between the Afrin Liberation Forces and the Turkish-affiliated “Syrian National Army” militias in the village of Kimar, located in the Sherawa subdistrict. The clashes persisted well into the midnight hours and were accompanied by heavy artillery shelling from both Turkish forces and the Afrin Liberation Forces. As of now, there is no available information regarding the extent of the damages incurred.
These clashes come after several days of relative calm along the frontlines situated between areas under Turkish forces and areas under Syrian regime control in northern Aleppo’s countryside.
The Turkish-backed forces had previously conducted heavy artillery bombardments on the perimeters of villages such as Al-Shawargha, Qal’at Al-Shawargha, and Tanab in the Sherawa subdistrict, on the morning of August 12th.
In a separate incident, a fire broke out on the evening of August 11th in the wooded area between the villages of Abbin and Aqiba, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Sherawa subdistrict. The fire was a consequence of the Turkish forces targeting the outskirts of the two villages, resulting in the ignition of numerous trees. Regrettably, local residents were unable to contain the blaze.
