Turkish-backed Militia Abducts and Shoots Syrian Civilians in Afrin

afrinpost– Exclusive

This morning, the Turkish-affiliated Jaish al-Sharqiya militia, abducted two individuals from the Al-Bashakam tribe, a branch of the Mawali tribe from the northern countryside of Hama, as they attempted to enter Turkish territory through smuggling routes.

Our correspondent explained that the individuals were trying to enter Turkish territory through smugglers operating in areas controlled by the Jaish al-Sharqiya militia in Jindires sub-district. However, the militia abducted them and demanded a ransom of $4,000 (equivalent to 2,000 Lira) for their release. When they refused to pay the requested amount, one of the militants fired a shot into the mouth of one of the captives, causing severe injuries. The wounded individual was subsequently transferred to the specialized hospital in Afrin, while the fate of the other captive remains unknown.

The correspondent added that among the militants implicated in the abduction and shooting are Abu Musab Al-Sarawi, Muayyad Al-Sarawi, and Abu Mujahid Al-Mayadin, hailing from the Ashara area in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and they are affiliated with a figure known as Abu Ahmed of the Jaish al-Sharqiya.

According to the information received, Jaish al-Sharqiya militia is attempting to evade responsibility for the incident, fearing a backlash from the Mawali tribe. They claim that the militants involved in the crime were expelled from their ranks. Meanwhile, Jindires sub-district and the city of Afrin are witnessing tension and mutual military mobilization between the Mawali tribe fighters and the Jaish al-Sharqiya militia.
