Turkish Authorities Releases Kurds in Afrin After Receiving Ransom Payments

The Turkish authorities have released three Kurdish civilians, including a woman, after paying a ransom ranging between 400 and 600 US dollars, in the occupied city of Afrin, our correspondent reported.

In detail, on July 23, the political security militia released “Hamouda Ahmed Wahid,” a resident of Kurzeleh village in the Sherawa sub-district, after he paid a sum of 600,000 dollars.

Similarly, on July 18, the military police militia released “Nawal Khalil Haj Hanan” (26 years old) and “Abdullah Haj Hanan” (40 years old), each after paying a sum of 400 US dollars for their release.

On May 23, 2023, our correspondent had reported that a military police patrol raided several houses in the Lower Kafardaleh village, located in the Jindires sub-district, and arrested three civilians from the same family on charges of working in institutions of the former Autonomous Administration. The arrested individuals were “Nawal Khalil Haj Hanan” (26 years old), “Abdullah Haj Hanan” (40 years old), and “Mahmoud Abdul Rahman Haj Hanan” (42 years old), and they were taken to the militia’s headquarters in the occupied city of Afrin.

Additionally, on June 24, 2023, political security militia elements raided homes of families in Afrin’s villages of Kurzeleh and Jumeh, arresting four young men, namely “Aldar Ahmed Abdou,” “Rizan Hussein Othman,” “Hamouda Ahmed Wahid,” and “Farhad Ahmed Wahid,” under the pretext of performing compulsory military service during the previous Autonomous Administration.
