On the evening of July 19th, intense clashes broke out between two factions of the “Ahrar al-Sham Movement” in Afrin, one led by “Abu Suleiman al-Hamwi,” the leader of the “Al-Iman Brigade,” and the other led by “Abu Ubaida Qatna.”
The incident occurred near Kawa Roundabout in the occupied city of Afrin. According to our correspondent, a member of Abu Ubaida Qatna’s group was filming a wedding ceremony for one of his friends when members of Abu Suleiman al-Hamwi’s group attacked him, accusing him of filming their military headquarters.
As a result, Abu Ubaida Qatna’s group brought in military reinforcements to Kawa Roundabout, leading to fierce clashes between the two sides, using light and medium firearms. Three individuals were seriously injured during the confrontations: two from the rival groups, and the third, named “Mohammed Alulu,” is a member of the military police militia, who attempted to intervene to break up the conflict.
It’s worth noting that the “Ahrar al-Sham Islamic Movement” militia is divided into two factions: one faction pledged allegiance to the “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” organization under the leadership of “Abu Suleiman al-Hamwi,” known as the “Ahrar Sufan.” The other faction, known as “Ahrar al-Sham Al-Shar’iya,” has rejected pledging allegiance to the organization.
