Escalating Violence in Al-Bab Leaves One Dead and Triggers Displacement

afrinpost– Exclusive

Intense clashes broke out late last night on Zemzem Street near al-Turki Mosque in Al-Bab, involving armed individuals from the Najjar and Qadeerani families. The confrontation, which involved heavy and medium machine guns, as well as rocket-propelled grenades, unfolded within residential neighborhoods. Tragically, a young man named Ali Al-Sawaj from the city of Al-Bukamal was killed, while four others, including Fajr Mohammed, sustained serious injuries.

According to our correspondent, following the young man’s death, the city witnessed a significant military mobilization of residents from Deir ez-Zor, resulting in road closures and indiscriminate and heavy gunfire. As a result, some families were forced to flee their homes in Al-Bab due to the hail of bullets, with a complete absence of Turkish-affiliated militias.

Our correspondent also reported that certain residents of the city have called for the intervention of the General Security Apparatus affiliated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, to restore order and curb the proliferation of weapons and near-daily clashes. The inaction of the National Army militias, who have merely remained spectators, has prompted this plea to halt the bloodshed.
