Turkish Authorities Release Detained Elderly Kurd in Afrin after Payment of Bail

afrinpost – Exclusive

According to our correspondent in Afrin, Turkish authorities have released the citizen Hassan Doliko Abu Abdou from the village of Maamala, affiliated with the Rajo sub-district, on May 15th, after paying a bail amount of $300.

Hassan, a 67-year-old citizen who came from the city of Aleppo, was arrested by the political security militia immediately upon his arrival in Afrin earlier this month. Although no clear charges were brought against him, his family paid a ransom of $300 for his release.

afrinpost” has documented 15 cases of arrest and abduction since the beginning of May 2023 until the 16th of this month, affecting citizens of Afrin, including a minor girl. Six cases of release have also been documented.

Arrest operations are often carried out arbitrarily, either by detaining individuals at security checkpoints or through “violent” raids accompanied by meticulous house searches and humiliation of the occupants. The charges brought against them are often baseless, revolving mostly around their previous affiliation with the Autonomous Administration or alleged cooperation with Kurdish military entities.
