IDPs, loyal to Turkey, violate sanctity of Yazidi cemetery and destroy shrines in Basufan, Afrin

afrinpost – Special

Once again, the IDPs, loyal to Turkey, violate the sanctity of graves in the Yazidi Kurdish villages in Afrin, and destroy their tombs, with extremist racist motives, in conjunction with the Yazidi “Êzî Feast”.

Our reporter in the Yazidi village of Basoufan in Sherawa district stated that the village residents were surprised on the morning of Friday 12/16/2022, when they visited the village cemetery, that a number of tombs had been vandalized and destroyed.

“Eda Rojiet Ezi or the Êzî Feast day” follows three days of fasting in December. The fasting days fall on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday according to oriental calendar

Sources from the village indicated to the reporter that the villagers were on Thursday, December 16, in the cemetry to build two new graves, which means that the attack took place on Thursday/Friday night, when the IDPs in the village, who are loyal to the Turkish-backed “Faylaq Al-Sham” militia, violated the sanctity of cemetery.

It is noteworthy that the attack on cemeteries and the violation of their sanctity is a repeated action in many villages of Afrin, as well as religious shrines, where on 6/29/2022, the sanctity of several cemeteries in the village of Basufan was violated, in addition to the graves whose tombs were written in Kurdish. The dome of the religious shrine of Sheikh Ali was also destroyed on the first day of the month of Ramadan, corresponding to April 24, 2020. Amidst the rituals of takbeer and accusing the people of infidelity. Not to mention the funeral ceremonies, which are harassed by stone-throwing and insults by the IDPs’ children.

The people of Basufan village were subjected to arrest campaigns, in which many residents, including women, were arrested. On 4/12/2020, one of the largest kidnapping campaigns was launched, when 11 citizens were arrested against the background of the killing of the security official of the village called “Hamza Abu Zaid”, during which the residents were subjected to torture, insults, financial extortion and forced displacement, in addition, the people’s property, homes, and olive fields were seized, and trees were cut down..
