The Turkish occupation continues the siege on Basufan and Ba’aiya … The fate of the kidnapped citizens is unknown

Afrinpost – Special

For about two weeks, the Turkish occupation and its Islamic militias have continued to besiege the villages of Basufan and Ba’aiya of Sherawa sub-district. Even foodstuffs are not allowed to enter, and it has also established a prison in the village of “Basufan”, where they detain the kidnapped citizens.

The Turkish army and the Sham Legion militia took the operation that was carried out in Basufan village, which led to the killing of Turkish soldiers and a leader in Failaq al-Sham, called “Abu Zaid,” as an excuse to launch an arbitrary arrest campaign against the people of the villages of Basufan and Ba’aiya of Sherawa sub-district in Afrin countryside. The occupation and its militias did not stop at the abduction of the citizens, but imposed a siege on the villages of Basufan and Ba’aiya since December 3, and prevented the entry of foodstuffs into the village, according to what was reported by Yezidi activists.

In this context, the “Afrinpost” met Kurdish citizens of Basufan village, who are currently residing in outside Afrin.

The occupation established a prison inside the village of Basufan

Journalist Zinar Jaafar from Basufan village says that a Turkish officer was killed in an operation carried out by the Afrin Liberation Forces in the village of Basufan, and the Turkish occupation took it as a pretext to arrest most of the Kurdish civilians in the village, and the fate of some of them remains unknown to this day.

Jaafar added that the Turkish occupation established a prison in Basufan village and detaining civilians there, and confiscated mobile phones from them, so there is no possibility to communicate with them and know what is happening with them.

Only 200 people remained in Basufan village

The co-chair of the Legislative Council for the Autonomous Administration in Afrin region, Suleiman Jaafar, who also is from the village of Basufan, told Afrinpost: “After the report of the Committee on Freedom of Religions about Turkey’s violation of the rights of the Yazidis in Afrin, Turkey sent mercenaries to restore the shrine of Sheikh Ali, which they had previously destroyed, and sent Nasir Hariri to the village of Basufan. ”

Jaafar believes that Hariri’s vistit aims to ascertain whether the demographic change took place in the village or not: “Basufan had more than 3,000 residents before the occupation, now only 200 remain. The two villages of Basufan and Ba’aiya have been besieged since the third of December.

Jaafar indicated that the fate of 6 kidnapped citizens is unknown, and they are: 1- Ghazala Manan Hussein, 40 years old. 2- Samer Mamed Hussein, 35 years old. 3- Basil Mamed Hussein, 22 years old. 4- Rizan Ibrahim Arabo, 22 years old. 5- Riad Ali Jumaa, 33 years old. 6- Muhammad Ali Junaid, 35 years old. They are in the Iska Village Prison ”.

Suleiman Jaafar concluded by noting that the goal is not to empty Basufan and its suburb only: “Rather, it is emptying all of Afrin from Kurds, so we appeal to international organizations to do their duty and implement their decisions, and Afrin is under danger and we want the Turkish occupation to be removed from it.”
