Olive theft season begins in Afrin, despite it is unripe yet

Afrinpost – Special

The olive thieves are racing against time, stealing the season before the olives ripen, and they scrape the trees to the last grain in the fields of Kurdish citizens in villages on Bulbul district in the occupied Afrin region.

Afrinpost correspondent reported that the Kurdish citizen Sheikh Ali, from the village of Khlalka, was surprised when he visited the olive fields that he owned with two of his brothers in the village of Qastal Miqdad, which are 480 trees. He came to the field only a week ago, and things were fine, and he estimated that the size of this season’s crop, which was stolen, was about 15 bags of olives due to the weak tree fruitiness this season.

In the village of Zaareh, the entire olive season was stolen from the field of the Kurdish citizen Rashid Maamo, which numbered 240 trees, and they did not leave a grain of olive on the trees.

In addition, the entire harvest of Sabri Muhammad from the village of Oga was stolen, and the number of olive trees in his field is (140) trees, which are divided into two parts, 80 and 60 trees.

The Afrinpost correspondent added that armed elements of Liwa al-Shamal militia, whose members are from the town of Hayyan, stole olive from fields owned by the Kurdish citizen Muhammad Habib from the people of Qurneh, and the thieves forced the owner of the mill to work by force. Only 17 oil tanks, despite the fact that the amount of stolen olives is 40 sacks of olives, and the reason for the low amount of oil is that the harvest took place prematurely.

It is noteworthy that the thefts began on a large scale and before the crop ripened, to deprive the Kurdish citizens of their seasons, as it is known that they start picking olives after the rains in late autumn, and it continues for about two months.
