On Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed the continuation of archaeological excavations in the rural areas of the occupied Kurdish Afrin region, which was affiliated to the self-administration in northern Syria previously.
The observatory said that the militants affiliated with the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood are carrying out destruction and looting of antiquities in various areas of Afrin countryside, the last of which is about a week ago.
Sources of the “Syrian Observatory” said that gunmen used bulldozers to dig the archaeological hill located in the village of “Arabo / Arab Ushaghi”, of the “Mobata / Ma’batli” district in the countryside of Afrin.
The observatory said that dozens of cypress and oak trees were surrounding the hill, but that the militants cut down most of them, in addition to uprooting olive trees that are more than fifty years old.
Since their occupation of Afrin in March 2018, under the banner of Ankara, the occupation gunmen have stolen the antiquities of the region, in addition to the property of the displaced people and robbing their homes.
