Afrinpost-Special
The indigenous population in the Kurdish region of Afrin, occupied by the Turkish occupation and the armed militias affiliated to the Muslim Brotherhood organization, suffers from difficult economic conditions due to the high prices of basic materials, especially fuel and gas.
The correspondent of “Afrinpost” reported that the Islamic militias have sought to raise the price of the gas canister from 4,500 Syrian pounds to more than 6 thousand, under the pretext of interruption of the material from the packing plant.
The reporter pointed out that the high price of gas in the markets comes after the Turkish occupation forces did not send the material to the packing factory in Afrin, as a result of the busy border crossings with gunmen going to the invasion of areas of northern Syria under Self-Administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
In this context, the suffering of the people increases with the price of diesel oil to more than 80 thousand Syrian pounds, with winter coming and as a result of Turkey’s invasion and occupation of areas in eastern Euphrates, which led to the interruption of the main roads.
According to the young woman “Nishtman / a pseudonym” resident in the province of Afrin, that the economic situation is getting worse and awaiting a harsh winter, as they have not yet been able to provide fuel for heating after the huge rise in the price of diesel.
“My father can barely afford the house where he works as a construction worker and it is difficult to install wood fireplaces inside the apartments because they often don’t work, so we may have no means of heating because of the high cost of fuel and my father only one working.”
Residents in the Kurdish region, especially in villages, are forced to buy firewood as an alternative heating method for fuel-fired heaters, as a result of the high price of fuel, a substance that has come under the occupation and extortion of militants.
The correspondent of “Afrinpost” in the center of the region had said that members of the Islamic militias formed workshops of militants, where they are cutting trees from the forests of Afrin province and collect firewood in fixed centers on the outskirts of villages.
The militias sell one ton of cypress and pine for a price 20,000 to 30,000 Syrian pounds, and export large quantities to Turkey for conversion to coal.
Residents in the occupied Kurdish Afrin region depend on fuel from the SDF areas east of the Euphrates, where traders bring diesel and gasoline to areas under Turkish occupation and sell them at double prices in the absence of censorship and royalties.
