The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) is making preparations to receive tens of thousands of forcibly displaced Afrin residents fleeing the Shahba region due to intensified Turkish attacks and assaults by affiliated militias.
A convoy of approximately 100,000 civilians, primarily women and children, departed from Shahba earlier today toward Tabqa under the protection of the International Coalition and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
According to sources, AANES has begun setting up shelters in Tabqa and Raqqa to accommodate the displaced. The administration is also working to provide essential services, including food, medical care, and emergency aid, to address the immediate needs of those arriving.
In an official statement released on Sunday, AANES appealed to the international community and humanitarian organizations to ensure the safety of minorities in Aleppo and other areas now under the control of Islamist factions such as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and its allies.
The statement urged global powers involved in the Syrian conflict to provide political and military support to AANES to counter potential Turkish-backed attacks on northern and eastern Syria.
The situation underscores the pressing need for international intervention to safeguard civilians and support stability in the region amid escalating threats.
