Turkish-backed Militants and IDPs Cut Down Dozens of Olive Trees in Afrin

afrinpost – Exclusive

Afrin’s occupied region continues to witness relentless violations against its forests and fruitful trees, with reports confirming the cutting down of nearly one hundred olive trees by armed groups and IDPs affiliated with Turkish-backed militia.

According to our correspondent, armed individuals associated with the “Malak Shah” militia felled 35 olive trees on March 10 near the orchard of the village of Arab Weran in the Sharan subdistrict. These trees belonged to Mr. Aziz Maamo, a resident of the village.

On March 11, IDPs from the town of Hayyan in the countryside of Aleppo partially cut down 65 olive trees from the field of Mr. Manan Mohammed, a resident of the Bulbul subdistrict. They subsequently transported the firewood to a center for selling firewood near the old conscription building in the occupied city of Afrin.

It is worth noting that these illegal logging operations are part of a systematic process aimed not only at using the wood for heating purposes but also at clearing large forested areas and cutting hundreds of thousands of olive trees to establish settlement projects. Additionally, the cut trees are often transported to Turkish territory for various purposes.
