In a disturbing incident, an IDP attacked an elderly Kurdish woman and her grandson in Marateh Square, located in the heart of occupied Afrin, on March 30. The assault, believed to have been triggered by a children’s quarrel, unfolded in the home of Qadir Hamrash, a resident of Jelbur village.
According to our sources, the assailant, hailing from Telqad in Idlib, forcefully entered Qadir’s home and brutally assaulted his wife, Shaziar, aged 70, and their 12-year-old grandson. Shockingly, the attack occurred within sight of a security post manned by militias affiliated with the “Syrian National Army.”
The altercation reportedly erupted due to a dispute between the assailant’s child and another child residing in the household of Abdulrahman Hamsoro, situated near Marateh Square.
Eyewitnesses recounted how the IDP mercilessly beat the child before turning his aggression towards the elderly woman, dragging her across the ground despite her husband’s disability. Fortunately, intervention from local residents prevented further harm to the victims.
Despite the gravity of the incident, the elderly woman opted against filing a complaint with Turkish authorities, fearing reprisals against her family. This decision underscores the pervasive climate of fear and intimidation that persists in occupied Afrin.
