Militants Assault Contractor and Threaten Kurdish Workers in Afrin

In a continuation of the security breakdown, armed militants from the “Al-Mu’tasim Brigade” militia assaulted an IDP contractor and threatened Kurdish workers in occupied Afrin city on the morning of February 28. They did so because the IDP contractor refused to assist them in looting electrical cables, phones, and flooring materials.

According to our correspondent, several militants from rural Homs and the Bani Zaid neighborhood in Aleppo city allied with “Al-Mu’tasim Brigade” attacked “Abu Mohammed,” a road contractor from Tal Rifaat city who was paving the road leading to the Al-Qaws Checkpoint. They did this because he refused to help them in stealing and looting electrical cables, phones, and flooring materials while working near the Jin Cafeteria and Aisha gas station.

Despite Abu Mohammed’s refusal, the militants looted electrical cables and sewage pipes from both new and old sections of the site, with members of the military police militia present to protect the contractor but failing to intervene to prevent the looting. Kurdish workers withdrew from the site after the militants attempted to assault them as well.

The correspondent added that these militants have a long history of violations and assaults. Just three days prior, they robbed “Mohammed Hameed Maamo,” a resident of Qara Qul village in Bulbul subdistrict, of his motorcycle, cellphone, and 600 Turkish lira after intercepting him near Aisha gas station.

This incident comes shortly after militants from the “Al-Hamzat” militia assaulted IDP “Mohammed Ahmed Al-Naas” on February 25 after he insulted them as they passed by him in a heavily armed SUV. This resulted in him sustaining bruises and fractures.
