On February 9th, Kurdish citizen “Mohammed Ibrahim Suran,” known as “Sewrik,” tragically lost his life after being struck by a heavy vehicle, a “Crider” used for road construction, by one of the IDPs. The incident occurred while he was with his sons in his olive field in the village of Fergana in the Şera/Sharan district of occupied Afrin countryside.

According to a private source from the village speaking to “afrinpost,” the elderly Kurdish man was run over by the heavy vehicle while lying under an olive tree, more than ten meters away from the road. This raises suspicions that the incident was deliberate, especially since a dispute had arisen between one of the IDPs in the village and the elderly Kurdish man regarding the field they were working in.

The source also revealed that “Sewrik” had previously received threats for refusing to grant his field under annual guarantee to one of the IDPs affiliated with the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia, which controls the village of Fergana. This raises doubts about the driver’s connection to the previous threat, which is expected to be motivated by the desire to seize the field.

Many Kurdish elders in Afrin have tragically passed away due to heart attacks caused by oppression, cruelty, mistreatment, and forcible seizure of properties by Turkish forces and allied armed militants and IDPs. Some have died due to being run over, amidst a complete lack of security and the absence of impartial judicial institutions for the indigenous Kurdish citizens in the occupied Afrin region.

On June 20, 2022, citizen “Rashid Subhi Mahmoud” (Mihik) lost his life after being deliberately run over by a military armored vehicle belonging to the Turkish forces in the middle of the market in the town of Rajo, in northern Afrin countryside

Kurdish citizen “Malak Khalil Ibo” (63 years old) from the village of Ali Garo in the Bulbul district, died of oppression and deprivation for over five years regarding her olive field, her source of livelihood, and her home, her shelter. She received death threats when armed men invaded her at night, causing her to suffer a stroke until she passed away on November 6, 2023.
