In the ongoing wave of kidnapping for financial extortion, a young man lost his life on January 25th when the “Liwa Asifat al-Shamal\ Northern Storm Brigade” militia opened fire during the abduction of a group of youths on the Syrian-Turkish border in the occupied countryside of Azaz.

According to our correspondent, approximately 14 young men, accompanied by a smuggler attempting to enter Turkish territory through smuggling routes, were intercepted by members of the “Northern Storm Brigade.” The militia opened fire, resulting in the death of young “Mohammed Yahya Jumaa,” known as Abu Hayyan, from the village of Hosh Arab in the Qalamoun region of rural Damascus. The rest of the young men were abducted.

Subsequently, the militia demanded a financial ransom of $1,500 for the release of each abducted individual, putting additional pressure on their families.

This incident follows a similar case where the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia forced the families of two young men, Mohammed Al-Ahmad and Mohammed Dibo from the southern Aleppo countryside, to pay a $200 ransom for their release after being kidnapped on January 23rd while heading to their work in the occupied city of Azaz.
