Syrian Regime’s Siege on Shahba Leaves Afrin Displaced People Devoid of Essentials

afrinpost-Exclusive

For more than 15 consecutive days, the Fourth Division of the Syrian regime maintains a suffocating blockade on Al-Shahba region in northern rural Aleppo. The relentless siege obstructs the entry of crucial fuel supplies, plunging the area into darkness and forcing schools to close.

Our correspondent reports that daily life for residents has ground to a halt, with transportation means paralyzed. Towns, villages, and displaced people’s camps in Afrin are grappling with the repercussions of fuel depletion for over two weeks.

The situation intensifies as the “Avrin” hospital, the sole medical facility in the region, can now only accommodate emergency cases. The hospital’s administration faces challenges securing fuel following the exhaustion of its reserves.

Despite desperate pleas from the local populace for intervention to lift the siege and permit the supply of essential fuel, external entities remain conspicuously absent, as highlighted by our correspondent.

On November 24th, the municipalities under the administration of the Shahba district declared a halt to all electricity generators due to a shortage of diesel fuel.

Controlled by the Fourth Division, the region’s entrances and exits are manipulated to exploit humanitarian aid, fuel, and medicines. This involves imposing substantial financial levies, tightening the grip on the residents and displaced people of Afrin with the evident goal of displacement and the systematic emptying of the region.
