Turkish forces and its allied militias persist in their arbitrary arrests, with the recent detainment of 35-year-old Kurdish citizen “Farhad Zaki Hamkro” from the village of Kurzeleh in the Shara district. He faces charges of alleged conspiracy and remains in arbitrary detention, as reported by the Democratic Unity Party (Yekiti) on 9/12/2023.
This follows the arrest on 25/11/2023 of “Mohammad Hassan Mohammad,” a 30-year-old Kurdish man from the village of Tal Sallor in the Jindires district. He was held for two days upon returning from displacement in Aleppo to his village.
The arrests in occupied Afrin persist, often lacking formal charges. The motives appear to involve intimidation and extortion of ransom from the local population.
It is worth noting that “afrinpost” has documented 41 cases of arrests and kidnappings in November 2023, including 3 women and 9 cases targeting citizens who recently returned to Afrin. Seventeen cases occurred at checkpoints manned by the Nubl and Zahraa militias, and four cases took place on Turkish soil.
