On October 31, Turkish authorities in Afrin released Mr. Khalil Omar Khalil, a 32-year-old resident of Qaragul village in the Bulbul sub-district. This release followed Mr. Khalil paying a $150 bail to the Turkish-controlled Afrin court in the occupied city of Afrin.
The arrest of Mr. Khalil took place on October 15, in an arbitrary manner, as his home, located at the entrance of Afrin city in the Ashrafiya neighborhood, was raided and its contents searched. The charges against him were related to his past involvement in protection units known as “Hêza Cewherî” during the period of Autonomous Administration in Afrin.
In a separate incident, Turkish authorities re-arrested Mr. Salim Ismail, a 27-year-old resident of Bafloor village in the Jindires sub-district, just one day after his initial release. The reasons for his second detention have not been specified.
It’s worth noting that Turkish intelligence had detained Mr. Salim Ismail on October 23, following his demands to recover his father’s confiscated property in the occupied city of Afrin. He had just returned from Aleppo a few days prior after enduring five years of forced displacement. His release was secured after he paid a sum of $10,000.
