Kurdish Resident Released in Afrin After Paying Fine to Turkish Authorities

In a recent development, Shiyar Rashid, a Kurdish resident, was released from the central prison in Marateh in the Afrin region on November 2nd. His release came after being fined $1,500 USD, in addition to a payment of 3,000 Turkish lira to the Turkish court.

Shiyar Rashid had been apprehended by Turkish intelligence on October 21st at his residence near the electricity company in the Mahmudiya neighborhood in Afrin. He was charged with working for the institutions of the previous Autonomous Administration in the occupied Afrin region. It’s worth noting that Shiyar had returned from Turkey approximately five months ago and is currently working as a tailor in the city of Afrin.

Throughout October 2023, “afrinpost” documented a total of 38 cases involving arrests and abductions, encompassing three women and one minor. Ten of these cases pertained to individuals who had recently returned to Afrin, with 16 cases resulting in their subsequent release. Among the detained individuals, six were IDPs.
